Where can I get smooth leather fabric by the yard?
A friend of mine agreed to make me a handbag out of leather for me. She just asked that I acquire about a yard and a half of the leather and also that it be a soft leather like nubuck or suede so that it's easier for her to manipulate. I would like a smooth leather though- like lambskin.. Is lambskin soft enough? Do they sell lambskin by the yard and where can I find it? I went to my local fabric store and all they had was faux leather not real like I want.
You'll need to buy a hide or partial hide from a leather sales company such as Tandy. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/Leather/Leather.aspx
Whether or not you can find leather splits that will work with a home sewing machine or not, I couldn't say, but you can call a Tandy store and ask.
