10 POINTS! CHEMICAL REACTIONS:mossy zinc then adding dilute hydrochloric acid?

1. placing small piece of mossy zinc in a test tube. Then adding 5 mL of dilute hydrochloric acid. Then placing an empty test tube over it. Place burning splint to the mouth of the test tube.
2. Light bunsen burner, obtain a yellow flame, than hold a clean beaker above flame for 7'ral seconds.
3. holding a piece of copper in a burner flame. Remove it examine, when copper cools, scrape surface with scoopula. Add scrapings to a test tube half-filled with water and stir to dissolve. Test s'ln with pH.
4. place dilute hydrochloric acid, into test tube. using drop of universal indicator, determine ph. then add dilute sodium hydroxide to acid and mix. Using eyedropper add more sodium hydroxide until pH is 7.
1. mossy zinc is a grey -silver metal
hydrochloric acid is a colorless solution
they react to produce bubbles of hydrogen gas & a solution of ZnCl2 , neither of which have colors
this is a single replacement reaction

most metal oxides will react with water, as in this synthesis reaction:
CuO & H2O --> Cu(OH)2 (s)
even though this blusih precipitate is a base, I can't imagine enough dissolving to alter the pH of your water

dilute sodium hydroxide is also a colorless liquid
this is a neutralization reaction, a variety of a double replacement
NaOH & HCl --> NaCl (aq) & H2O (l)
it produces salt water, & if the acid & base had sufficient strength , you may notice some heat given off
