Value of a Pipe Tomahawk, Joseph Jourdain?
This Tomahawk head does not have original handle. It has the copper crescent moon that was the signature of Joseph Jourdain. circa 1845-55. Hand-forged steel, with Jourdain's signature inlaid brass crescent, The blade 7" in length, 2.5/8" at its widest point, the tall pipe bowl 1.5" in height. Jourdain, born at Three Rivers, Canada in 1780 moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1796 and worked at the Indian Agency there until 1834, transferring in that same year to Winnebago Rapids near the Little Lake des Mort's. He remained here until his death in 1866 (Peterson 1971:49; 132).
